Fred Chavez
Fred Chavez, our loving husband & father, passed away February 9, 2012. He was born August 17, 1925 in Glencoe, Colorado to Remigio & Lucy M. Chavez.
Fred attended and graduated from Weber Adult High School. On December 9, 1946 Fred married the love of his life, Maria Frances Romero in Mancos Colorado at St. Rose Catholic Church.
Fred was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp and was awarded a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal and numerous other medals for outstanding achievements. He worked at G.S.A., Freeport Center and retired from DDO. He was a dedicated member of the Disabled American Veterans for 50 years and was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Military Order of the Purple Hearts.
He was affiliated with the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Special thanks to the physicians and staff at Tanner Clinic, Bitner Bldg.; Liberty Dialysis and Thatcher Brook Center.
Fred is survived by his wife Maria Frances Chavez, daughters AnnaBelle Coria, Sandra Chavez-Houck and special son-in-law Todd Houck, beloved brother-in-law David Nickerson, sisters Fay, Clara, Virginia, Elenor and Mary Lou, brothers Benny & Robert, grandchildren; Frank Gallegos, Trina (Octavio) Gallegos, Miguel (China) Coria, Bianca (Juan) Tafoya, Veronica Serrano, Amber Houck, great grandchildren; Tony Anisa, Annabell, Diamond, Isabell Coria, Carlos Ramirez, Angelic (Jonah), Brittany, Heidi, Kylee, Melissa Gallegos, R.J. Hart, Arianna Serrano, Evanglee, Samantha and Fred Tafoya and 7 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two dear cousins Sophie Martinez and Kathy Lujan. He was preceded in death by Remigio & Lucy Chavez, Celina Lynch, Helen Bridgeforth, Delia Garcia and Rose Lujan.
Funerals services will be held Wednesday February 15, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel, Layton, Utah. A viewing will be held on Tuesday February 14, 2012 from 5-6 pm at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street. An evening service and Rosary will begin at 6:00 pm, also at Leavitt's Mortuary.
Interment at Lindquist Cemetery Layton.
