Annie Zenk Cabrales
"Nan"
Annie Marcella Cabrales, 92, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Anita, on Sunday February 19, 2012. Her children and grandchildren said their goodbyes and expressed their love to "Nan" before she passed away.
Annie was born on May 30. 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Zenk and Annie Dougard Zenk. She attended school in Chicago. She met the love of her life, Mariano, in Chicago at the ballroom dances where he was a musician. They were married in 1942, and moved to California before Mariano was shipped overseas during World War II. Upon his return, they moved to Utah. Annie worked at the Arsenal, which later became Hill Air Force Base for a short time, but later quit to stay home and be a housewife and mother to their two daughters, Anita and Mary Ann.
Annie loved to fish and camp. After Mariano retired in 1973, they spent much of their time camping and fishing, especially at Flaming Gorge. They loved to go on the Senior Citizen's buses to Wendover and Elko. Annie is best known for her wonderful, funny stories and adventures she experienced throughout her life. Annie's hobbies included entering sweepstakes where she had won numerous prizes, including four cars.
Annie was raised a Catholic. In her later years she studied the Bible with a dear friend. She believed in the resurrection. She is preceded in death by her husband Mariano, her parents, two sisters Mary and Isabelle, and two brothers Billy and Francis. She is survived by two daughters, Anita (Dan) Draney, and Mary Ann (William) Woodbury, five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
