R. Scott Dye, 93, passed away on January 17, 2012. He was born October 15, 1918 to Samuel C. Dye and Lydia Hobson Dye in Ogden, Utah. Scott graduated from Ogden High School and the University of Utah, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He married Kathryn Abbott on April 30, 1946, in Ogden, Utah.
Scott served with distinction in the Army during World War II from August 1941 through January 1946 attaining the rank of Captain. He landed in Europe on D-Day plus one, and advanced as part of the V Corps Artillery unit through to Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his Service. After his discharge, he returned to Ogden and joined his father, S.G. Dye in running the family business the LR Samuels Co, a national prominent women's specialty store in downtown Ogden which later became the Auerbach's department store. Over his 35 plus years in business, Scott was very active in the Ogden community, serving on various charitable and civic committees which also included serving for many years on the Commercial Security Bank Board of Directors.
In his leisure time Scott was an avid skier (until age 85) spending many days on the hill with his wife, family and friends. He also enjoyed duck hunting, gardening, and golfing. He and his wife Katie also loved to travel and visited many parts of Europe, Asia, India, and South America as well as most of the United States. He was always willing to take on new places and experiences, and his generosity to make sure everyone else was taken care of will be his legacy.
Scott is survived by his wife Kathryn A. Dye, children; Richard Abbot (Kelly) Dye, Susan (Mike) Cottam, Steven Scott (Kellie) Dye, grandchildren; Kathryn Ann Dye, Anthony Scott Dye and Kyle Scott Dye.
