Gertrud "Heidi" Hoaglin
October 20, 1952 ~ March 25, 2012
Heidi passed away peacefully in the morning, on an usually warm and cloudy day, at Ogden Regional Medical Center with her loving family by her side after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Heidi was born in Oftersheim, Germany on October 20, 1952 in the home of her parents, Adelma and Karl Ryll. She was reared and educated in Germany.
She met and married her best friend and soul mate Don, in Germany, and they moved to Utah with their oldest son 6 years later. She was employed for many years at St. Benedict's Hospital in Ogden, then owned and operated Heidi's Janitorial for over 10 years. Heidi was a founding member of the Women's Retreat House in Ogden. She had many special friends whom she deeply loved and cherished.
Heidi was a very special, beautiful, compassionate woman who put the needs of others before her own and will truly be missed. Heidi was an incredible and incomparable cook, whether cooking for two or for the masses; she could create the most amazing meals and left everyone in awe and wanting more! She was famous for her traditional German food, cooking and serving in several arenas over the years, but more importantly her family.
During the past 8 years, her pride and joy was her 3 grandchildren; to them she was lovingly their "Oma". She always said they brought her life, and were a comfort to her during her illness. In her last days, they still brought a smile to her face and they will never forget her.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Carl Gray, his nurses and staff as well as the staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care.
Heidi is survived by her husband Don Hoaglin, Ogden; her two sons Mark (Lori) Hoaglin, Ogden; Nick (Bridgette) Hoaglin, Moses Lake WA; two brothers Adolf Ryll and Sigmund Ryll, Germany; one sister Erika Schreiner, Germany; three beautiful grandchildren: Koda Jean, Max and Raina Hoaglin (Mark), Ogden; Mother-in-law Pat Gardiner, Ogden; two brothers-in-law: Bob (Joni) Hoaglin and Scott (Michele) Hoaglin, Ogden; and many nieces and nephews in America and Germany.
Heidi was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Dave O'Brien, 2 brothers-in-law Mark and Kenny Hoaglin.
